Work To Include Webinar featuring Doug Crandell - Author of Twenty-two Cent An Hour
Join us for an informal session discussing the past, present and future of employment and the disability industrial complex. This webinar focuses on the recent publication, Twenty-Two Cents an Hour: Disability Rights and the Fight to End Subminimum Wages. During the first 30 minutes, the author, Doug Crandall, highlights the creation of “the minimum, subminimum wage” in 1986; the scathing testimonies in 1994; the millions spent to fight the Fair Wages for Workers with Disabilities Act in 2012; and other milestones related to subminimum wages. From this foundational platform, he will discuss and analyze HR 2373, the Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act. Finally, we will spend time thinking about the ethics of evidence-based practices in disability and employment.
The Presenter: Doug Crandell has worked for decades in employment and disability supports. He's an advocate for a sibling with disabilities. In Twenty-Two Cents an Hour, he focuses on how the Disability Industrial Complex is often impenetrable, mired in deficit-thinking, and controlled by the lobbying of trade groups.
Doug has published eight books with publishers including Penguin-Random House, Chicago Review Press, Virgin Books, and Cornell University Press. His essays on labor, mental health, and disability appear regularly at the SUN magazine
